October is End Poverty Month

Help us spread the word about poverty in Calgary

1 October 2022

People gathered looking at a computer screen with and hand popping out holding a megaphone.
Here are the facts: about 1 in 10 people live in poverty in our city, but we know that there are even more who cannot meet their basic needs especially with the current cost of living crisis. Another thing we know is that many factors contribute to poverty, but there are just as many solutions.
Mayor Jyoti Gondek, has proclaimed October as End Poverty Month to raise awareness. It is centred around the United Nation’s International Day for the Eradication of Poverty held every year on October 17.
Throughout this month, Vibrant Communities Calgary, along with the City of Calgary, the United Way of Calgary and Area and Momentum, will be working to amplify the voices of lived experience and highlight the root causes of poverty as well as poverty reduction efforts throughout our city.
